N-400 Interview Hub
Everything you need to feel prepared for your naturalization interview.
How the interview works, step by step
- 1Check in
Arrive 15 minutes early. Show your appointment notice and photo ID at the security desk.
- 2Meet the officer
A USCIS officer calls your name and walks you to their office. You'll be sworn in to tell the truth.
- 3Review your N-400
The officer asks about your application page by page — name, address, work, travel, family, good moral character questions.
- 4English test
Speaking is evaluated during the whole interview. You'll also read one sentence aloud and write one sentence.
- 5Civics test
Up to 10 questions from the 100-question list. You pass when you answer 6 correctly.
- 6Decision
The officer usually tells you the result the same day: Granted, Continued, or Denied.
