Week 4: Reviewing Your N-400 Application

This is our full review week for the N-400. We will go through the 'good moral character' section — the questions that ask if you have ever been arrested, missed child support, lied to the government, or claimed to be a U.S. citizen. USCIS expects you to answer 'yes' honestly to anything that applies. Lying to USCIS is a much bigger problem than the original incident. We'll talk through how to handle any 'yes' answer together — you don't need to gather anything in advance.

N-400 checklist for this week

• Re-read every 'have you ever…' question in Part 12 out loud and answer honestly
• Bring certified court documents for any arrest, citation, or ticket — even if the case was dismissed
• If you owe child support or back taxes, bring a payment plan showing you are current
• Practice explaining any 'yes' answer in one calm, simple sentence

The N-400 is the application to become a U.S. citizen. It asks about your life in the United States, your family, your work, your travel, and your character. Answer every question honestly. At the end of the process, you will take the Oath of Allegiance and promise to be loyal to the United States.
